Legal Department

The Legal Department of New Creature Church of Christ (NCCC) has a central function of the Church, acting in legal matters for the organisation and all of its courts, councils, committees, and the trustees. The Department can also acts for individual church member and is available to give advice on any legal matter arising. The post of Solicitor of the Church is created at the same time as the formation of the department and it is now customarily held along with the posts of Legal Advisor.

The subject areas which form the majority of the Department’s work are:

  • The charitable trust framework within which the Representative Body is required by law to operate. This includes negotiations with the Charity Commission on a wide range of matters.
  • Oversight the activities of the Finance Team for the purpose of compliance to accounting rules
  • The preparation of draft amendments to the Constitution when requested by the church administration or trustees,
  • Oversight of the church building committee
  • Dealing with contentious cases, whether relating to property, employment or other matters
  • Advice on legal aspects of safeguarding issues
  • Legal support to all departments for the purpose of compliance to laws and policies
